Meet Rob McLeod, a competitive athlete living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He competes in ultimate frisbee, disc golf, dog disc and overall flying disc competitions. He currently holds 11 World Records (including 5 Guinness World Records), the Canadian Distance Record, 5 World Championships and 2 Quadruped titles.

I was invited to spend a week with the students at Heart Lake KOHLS School, on the Heart Lake First Nation, from February 10-14. The students numbered around 29 total, depending on the day, and ranged in age from 3 to 15. More than half of the kids are high special needs, and the majority are functioning below grade level for various reasons.

At 18, Rob McLeod was a freshman at the University of Alberta and living about an hour outside Edmonton with his aunt and uncle. After an active childhood, he was stuck in no man’s land, an athlete without a sport.
